Bashundhara City shopping mall reopens today
Bashundhara City, the country’s largest shopping mall, reopens today after a brief closure due to a fire incident.
The shopping mall at the Panthapath in the capital was closed for renovation and security-related work. The market will open at 12:00 noon today for all, according to Bashundhara City authorities.
Bashundhara City Development Limited (BCDL) has already completed all preparations to reopen the market for shoppers and visitors.
TIM Latiful Husain, senior adviser to the Chairman of Bashundhara Group and the in-charge of BCDL, said, “We have already taken measures to run the central air-conditioning system, escalators and the lifts. However, the portion affected by the fire — the C Blocks on Level-6 and Level-7 — will remain closed for a few more days for renovation.”
“All of our staffs, including the engineers, have worked relentlessly to reopen the market as early as possible. The fire damaged the central air-conditioning system, so it took a while to fix the air-conditioning units and make sure that there are no other potential hazards,” he added.
The shoppers will continue to enjoy the same safety and convenience as the Bashundhara City has been offering since the beginning, he said.
Mentioning that the fire has caused financial loss to some shop owners, Latiful Husain said, “Keeping the shops closed before Eid will intensify the losses. Some other issues still need to be addressed, including the renovation of the effected shops. So, we are trying to help the shop owners with regard to some issues including getting bank loans.”
On August 21, the fire broke out at a shoe store at Block-C on Level-6 of the market. Visitors in the shopping mall were evacuated safely, and there has not been any casualty in the incident.
