Bashundhara Kings complete players’ registration
The club president Imrul Hasan talked about their target while submitting the registrations of 32 players out of 35 amid a festive mood at the BFF House Saturday
Despite their debut appearance in the top-flight league, newly-promoted Bashundhara Kings aim to win all the silverware in the upcoming season after forming a star-studded squad that includes nine national footballers and a World Cup 2018 playing member, Daniel Colindres.
The club president Imrul Hasan talked about their target while submitting the registrations of 32 players out of 35 amid a festive mood at the BFF House Saturday. The team are led by Maldives outfit New Radiant Sporting Club’s former treble winning Spanish coach Oscar Bruzon.
“The target is to win all the trophies, that’s how we formed our squad. Competing in the AFC Cup is also a target,” said Imrul during a press conference.
“Fans like to watch the players with individual skill. We brought in one player who played in the World Cup 2018 so that crowd could be more interested to come to the stadium to watch our games,” he added.
Costa Rica international Colindres was among the three foreign recruits who officially signed for Bashndhara Kings so far, including Spanish centre-back Jorge Gotor and the latest signing being Brazilian forward Marcos Vinicius. The club are still searching for the single Asian-quota player.
Among the nine players who featured in the national squad at the Saff Championship and the Bangabandhu Gold Cup, four names were common options in the attacking front, including regular striker Mahbubur Rahman Sufil.
Towhidul Alam Sabuj, Matin Mia and Mohammad Ibrahim are among the others while Hemanta Vincent Biswas also returned to action after being ruled out for quite a while due to injury.
It has been a common scene in the premier league that the national forwards, specifically the younger ones, used to get less playing time for the club compared to the foreign forwards. When reminded of the situation, Sufil said he is ready to fight to get his place with solid performances.
The midfield will be led by club’s record fee midfielder Emon Mahmud, who was a key member in Abahani’s title winning campaign in the last two seasons, along with the in-form Masuk Mia Jony. Nasir Uddin Chowdhury’s experience would also boost the confidence of the club.
Bruzon informed that it was also the first day he got all his squad members back after the return of the national players.
He also praised the club’s “good ambition” and the efforts behind forming and supporting a squad that is looking forward to making big impact in the upcoming season, scheduled to kick off with the Federation Cup on October 22.
