Mission AFC Cup 2021 starts: Imrul Hassan

Bashundhara Kings officially completed the contract signing formalities with their new ace recruits Jonathan da Silveira Fernandes Reis and Robson Azevedo da Silva Robinho during a signing ceremony in Bashundhara Residential Area on Sunday.
Bashundhara Kings President Imrul Hassan signed the contracts on behalf of Bashundhara Kings with Fernandes and Robinho. The Brazilian sensations will dawn Bashundhara Kings’ jersey from now on and Kings President was elated to have them in their camp.
“Both of them are top-class footballers and will gel nicely with our philosophy of striving for excellence. We are very happy to welcome Fernandes and Robinho to Kings’ camp. We are eyeing next AFC Cup,” said Imrul Hassan.
Kings officials also confirmed that they are setting long term goals and will not lose their morale due to short term setbacks. Bashundhara Kings are going to strengthen their team on the back of their dynamic Brazilian duo with the next edition of AFC Cup in mind.
Kings are also confident that they will be able to field foreign players in the next edition of Bangladesh Premier League.
It won’t be an unfounded claim to predict that Bashundhara Kings are all set to pack a double punch in their AFC Cup campaign next year with this all-stars squad.
Both Fernandes and Robinho were extremely happy to be able to join Bashundhara and hoped that they will be able to prove their worth to the club and especially the growing fan clubs of Bashundhara Kings.
“It’s an amazing opportunity for me to be able to play for Bashundhara Kings. I think it’s going to be journey of accomplishments,” said Fernandes.
“I extend my gratitude to Bashundhara Kings President Imrul Hassan for this opportunity to serve this amazing clubs and it’s fans. I hope that I can prove my worth,” said Robinho.
The country’s top-flight outfit, which suspended camp on March, resumed it last week at the club premises with 22 local players and 8 coaching staff. Jonathan da Silveira Fernandes Reis and Robson Azevedo da Silva Robinho along with Kings Argentine forward Hernan Barcos arrived in the capital on Thursday.
“They will take part in the domestic league. I believe their arrival will boost the confidence of the local players,” Bashundhara Kings President Imrul Hassan said.
Kings, which emerged as champions in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2018-19, started the season 2019-20 clinching their maiden title in the curtain raiser Federation Cup on January. They were in sixth slot securing 10 points with three wins, one draw and three defeats before the cancellation of BPL on March.
The Professional Football League Committee of Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) proposed clubs to take part in the 2020-21 season without foreign players. The committee gave clubs the opportunity to be able to retain their local players in the 2020-21 season and proposed them to pay players the full amount of contract money for the 2019-20 season and only 20 to 25 percent for the 2020-21 season. They also proposed to shorten the schedule and restrict the number of venues to 3-4.
Refusing the proposal, Bashundhara Kings demanded to the right to field foreign players in the upcoming league.
“We remain firm in our position and will not accept their proposal. We can’t play without foreign players. We’ve already sent a letter to the federation and told them to consider our present situation,” added Imrul.
