Bashundhara Foundation disbursed on Wednesday interest-free microcredit to the tune of Tk. 2.3 million among 340 people, including 100 new members of it at a function at Banchharampur in Brahmanbaria. The new members received Tk. 5,000 each and the old members Tk. 7,500 each. With the latest disbursement, the foundation, a welfare body of Bashundhara Group, has so far given over Tk. 15 million to 2800 people. The disbursement of microcredit takes place once in every three months. The disbursement on Wednesday exceeded the foundation’s budget by Tk. 2.0 million. The foundation has been disbursing the microcredit free of any charge and interest among the poor and destitute people since 2005. The 21st micro-credit disbursement was dedicated to those martyred during the country’s War of Independence in 1971, a senior official of Bashundhara Foundation said. “The micro-credit disbursement was dedicated to the 1971 martyrs,” Bashundhara Foundation’s Chief Coordinator Mr. Mainal Hossain Chowdhury said. Prayer was offered later seeking blessings for Bashundhara Group chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, his family members and the 1971 martyrs, among others, at the micro-credit disbursement ceremony. The beneficiaries were just overwhelmed with joy after receiving the microcredit from Bashundhara Foundation.
