Shuvosangho has distributed sewing machines among 20 underprivileged women after a three-month sewing training programme in Shayestaganj upazila of Habiganj for free of cost.
Prof Syed Misbah Uddin of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) handed over the sewing machines as the chief guest at Zohur Chan Bibi Mohila College on Thursday.
Addressing the programme, Prof Misbah said Bashundhara Group has set an example for the business community to make a difference by changing society.
“Through sewing training, poor women will not only become self-reliant, they can also contribute significantly to the country's GDP,” he said.
Zohur Chan Bibi Mohila College Principal Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun, journalist Shah Fakhruzzaman, Bashundhara Shuvosangho Director Zakaria Zaman, college lecturers Shaheen Miah and Arifur Rahman were also present on the occasion.
