Bashundhara Foundation has distributed interest- and service charge-free microloans to underprivileged communities in Nabinagar of Brahmanbaria and Homna of Cumilla to support community empowerment.
Under the initiative, the foundation disbursed Tk5.3 million in microloans to 323 beneficiaries across the two upazilas.
Among the beneficiaries, 78 individuals received Tk15,000 loans for the first time, while 151 others received the same amount as second-time recipients.
Bashundhara Group Adviser Maynal Hossain Chowdhury and Bashundhara Foundation CEO M Naseemul Hye attended the 77th loan distribution ceremony held at Akanagar Madrasa Ground in Bancharampur on Monday.
Speaking at the programme, M Naseemul Hye remarked that interest- and service charge-free microloans are a rarity in global history.
“Bashundhara Group is providing microloans free of interest and service charges to help women from underprivileged families become self-reliant,” he said.
Maynal Hossain Chowdhury stated that Bashundhara Group consistently stands beside the underprivileged, striving to empower them within their communities.
“Please keep Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan and his family in your prayers. May Allah bless them with long life, so we may continue to stand beside you with their support,” he said.
According to the organisers, a total of 28,701 people have received loans since the launch of the microloan project in 2005, with approximately Tk280.04 million disbursed to date.
