Anvir Bashundhara Group stands by families of martyred firefighters

Anvir Bashundhara Group (ABG) Chairman Sayem Sobhan Anvir has extended financial assistance to the families of the three firefighters who lost their lives while battling a blaze at a chemical warehouse at Tongi’s Sahara Market area in Gazipur in September.   

Fire Service and Civil Defence Director General (DG) Brigadier General Muhammad Jahed Kamal, martyred firefighter Md Nurul Huda’s father Abul Monsur, martyred firefighter Shamim Ahmed’s wife Monira Akter, and martyred firefighter Khandaker Jannatul Nayeem’s wife Farzana Islam Mitu, expressed their gratitude to the ABG Chairman for the support.    

ABG’s General Manager (Central Administration) Lt Col (retd) Syed Jamil Ahsan handed over the assistance at a programme held at the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters in the capital on Thursday morning.

Fire Service Director (Training, Planning and Development) Lt Col M A Azad Anwar, Deputy Director (Administration and Finance) Md Ohidul Islam, Deputy Director (Dhaka) Md Saleh Uddin, and other senior officials were present during the ceremony.

In his speech, Fire Service and Civil Defence DG Muhammad Jahed Kamal said that no one has the power to bring back those who have passed away. But support can help ease the lives of their families. The assistance from Anvir Bashundhara Group is part of that effort. Further contributions in the future would also be welcomed.

He also mentioned that a support fund has been created with the contribution of one day’s salary from Fire Service members. Assistance has also been arranged from this fund for the families of the firefighters who died in Tongi.

ABG’s General Manager Lt Col (retd) Syed Jamil Ahsan said that the ABG Chairman has expressed his commitment to standing by Fire Service personnel at all times.

Supporting the families of the martyred firefighters was part of that commitment.  ABG Chairman conveyed his respect, prayers, and gratitude to those who sacrificed their lives, he added.
