At least 80 people, most of who are the elderly people of poverty-stricken families, of Mymensingh are going to undergo eye surgery for free at Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute in the capital’s Bashundhara Residential Area.
The eye patients were selected through a free eye camp jointly conducted by the research institute and Vision Care Foundation on Varoil Gandogram Government Primary School premises at Gafargaon in Mymensingh on Friday.
Eye camp managing committee convenor Jalal Akhando and joint convenor AKM Salimullah Manik arranged the camp while agriculturist Dr Shafiul Ahad Sarder supervised it.
Dr MA Khalek and Dr Faizul Islam of Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute provided 600 patients with free treatment.
Of whom, 80 have been selected for surgery.
Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute, a concern of the country’s largest business conglomerate Bashundhara Group, have been providing free treatment to the poor and helpless people since April 2014 as part its corporate social responsibility.
The hospital is being run with the technical support of Vision Care Foundation with an objective to eliminating blindness from the country.
