Bashundhara Cement signs deal with Chinese firm

Chinese construction firm Longjian Road & Bridge Company Ltd has selected Bashundhara Cement for the construction of Paira (Lebukhali) Bridge in Patuakhali because of the high quality of the local premier brand cement. “We evaluated several cement brands of Bangladesh. From a laboratory test, we’ve found that the quality of Bashundhara Cement is very high… We’ve chosen Bashundhara Cement only because of its high performance and quality.” Chen Wei, project manager of Longjian, made the disclosure while speaking at an agreement-signing ceremony between Bashundhara Cement and Longjian on the construction of the Tk 1,020-crore bridge project. Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir and Chen Wei inked the deal on behalf of their respective sides in the residence of Bashundhara Group Managing Director at Bashundhara Residential Area in the capital. Belayet Hossain, senior deputy managing director, Engr AKM Mahbub-uz-Zaman, deputy managing director, Tofael Hossain, chief financial development officer, Khandkar Kingshuk Hossain, head of sales, Dr Sajjad Haider, adviser (foreign affairs) to managing director, and Maksudur Rahman, secretary to managing director, of Bashundhara Group were present. Meanwhile, Engr Saroj Kumar Barua, assistant general manager (technical), Tang Yakoon, chief engineer, and Boan Hong Fu, finance manager, of Longjian were also present on the occasion. The total length of the bridge is 1470 metres which will be extra-dosed, cable-stayed bridge. The project is due for completion by the next three years. Sources said a total of 50,000 tonnes of cement will be used in the project and Bashundhara Group will supply the entire volume of cement under the deal. Bashundhara Group DMD Engr Mahbub said Bashundhara Cement maintains best quality in manufacturing cement. Bashundhara Cement is manufactured with the state-of-the-art technology. “Bashundhara Cement produces high-quality cement using the most-modern technology that is usually used in Europe. Bashundhara Cement is actually fit for heavy construction,” he mentioned. About Longjian’s selection of Bashundhara Cement, Engr Mahbub said the reason is clear: quality matters. “The bridge site is a saline zone. They chose our cement considering soil condition so that the bridge can be sustainable.” Noting that it is a matter of great proud for Bashundhara Group, he said the bridge will help develop the livelihood of southerners.
