Bashundhara Group donated on Saturday Tk 10 lakh in humanitarian aid to the family of Biswajeet who was brutally killed by terrors in old Dhaka’s Jagannath University area during road-blockade programme of the opposition 18-party alliance on December 9 last year. A cheque for Tk 10 lakh has given to Bishwajit’s parents here today in a programme arranged at conference room of East-West Media Group. Eminent lawyer of the Supreme Court Barrister Rafiqul Haque attended the programme as chief guest and handed over the cheque to the Bishwajit’s mother Kalpana Rani Das and father on behalf of Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan. Earlier, in a meeting with the editors of the news outfits of East West Media Group, the BG chief, Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, announced the humanitarian assistance for the helpless family that lost its bread-earner in the violence on the political arena. Bashundhara Group, as part of its corporate social responsibility, has also extended financial assistance to the family members of a number of victims of violence, accidents or untimely deaths. They include Megh, the only and minor son of slain journalist-couple Sagar and Runi, family of journalist Dinesh Das, killed in road accident, journalist Nikhil Bhadra, critically injured in a road accident, and families of late journalists Apon Mahmud and Pathik Saha. Besides, the leading business house helped helpless children and mothers in getting medical treatment and surgeries.
