EWMGL gets NBR award

East West Media Group Limited (EWMGL), a concern of the country’s leading business conglomerate Bashundhara Group, has been honoured by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) as the highest taxpayer under taxes zone-5.

The media company, which runs entities including the daily sun, Kaler Kantho, Bangladesh Pratidin, banglanews24.com News24 TV channel and Capital FM radio station, received an award from taxes zone-5 of the revenue authorities on Tuesday.

NBR Chairman Md Nojibur Rahman handed over the award to Bashundhara Group Chief  Financial Officer (CFO) Tofail Hossain at an event at the conference room of taxes zone-5 in the capital.

EWMGL had received the highest taxpayer award in the print and electronic media category from NBR during Income Tax Fair held in November this year.

At the Tuesday event, the revenue authorities honoured six other highest taxpayers, including one long-term taxpayer.

Dr Habibur Rahman received the award on behalf of Haji Md Syedullah Mia as long-term taxpayer, while Daily Star publisher and Editor Mahfuz Anam received the award on behalf of Media World Ltd, Mohua Mahbub Khan on behalf of Bay Developments Ltd, SA Chowdhury on behalf of Space Zero Ltd, Towfiqul Islam on behalf of ASHA and Shirajul Islam on behalf of Buro Bangladesh.

NBR members Md Abdur Razzak and Habibur Rahman Akand and Tax Commissioner for Taxes Zone-5 Shaheen Akhter were also present at the award-giving function.
