Professor Syed Anwar Husain, eminent historian, British Commonwealth scholar and a senior faculty of Dhaka University, has been made Editor of the Daily Sun, the upcoming English newspaper of the East West Media Group Limited (EWMGL).
The East-West Media Group Limited is an enterprise of the country’s leading industrial and business conglomerate the Bashundhara Group. The enterprise owns two Bengali language dailies, an English language daily, a bilingual online portal, a financial weekly, a diplomatic journal, a radio and a television.
Prior to his latest responsibility at the Daily Sun he had been the Vice-Chancellor of Darul Ihsan University, Director General of the Bangla Academy, premier research body in the country, Visiting Professor of International History at Columbia University, Pennsylvania University and American University in the United States of America and Chairman of History Department at Dhaka University.
Fulbright fellow at the Berkeley in California, USA, Professor Husain is a regular contributor of prestigious and research journals at home and abroad. He so far has authored dozens of books.
He is the founder President of Bangladesh Association for American Studies (BAAS) and Bangladesh Society of International Studies (BSIS). He was the President of Bangladesh History Association and General Secretary of the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh.
A book of the author titled “Superpowers and Security in the Indian Ocean: A South Asian Perspective” won Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) award as the best research publication.
