The daily sun stepped into the ninth year of its operation on Wednesday with a vow to project positive stories of Bangladesh across the world.
The English newspaper organised a get-together of readers and well-wishers, including politicians, diplomats, journalists and academics, at its head office in Bashundhara Residential Area of the capital.
Parliament Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury was present as the chief guest. State Minister for Information Tarana Halim and Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir and Director Sabrina Sobhan also attended the event.

Addressing the function, Speaker Shirin Sharmin said the daily sun plays an important role in projecting positive Bangladesh globally by publishing success stories of the country.
She emphasised the need for focusing socio-economic developments through producing news items for the sake of the continuation of the democratic trend.
Appreciating the newspaper, the speaker said it has won the minds of the readers by presenting authentic contents with objective journalism.
In the morning, Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir and Director Sabrina Sobhan inaugurated the daylong celebrations by cutting a cake along with the guests.
State Minister Tarana Halim, Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Harsha Bardhan Shringla, Brazilian Ambassador Howao Tabazara and several members of diplomatic corp in the country were present on the occasion.
Bangladesh Pratidin Editor Naem Nizam, Kaler Kantho Editor Imdadul Haq Milon, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha Managing Director Abul Kalam Azad, Daily Sun publisher Maynal Hossain Chowdhury, Daily Sun Executive Editor Shiabur Rahman, Kaler Kantho Executive Editor Mostofa Kamal, Banglanews24 Consulting Editor Jewel Mazhar and News24 Executive Director Hasnain Khurshid were also present, among others.
In his speech, Enamul Hoque Chowdhury said the daily sun is now in the second position in terms of circulation and it will clinch top position in future.
Indian envoy Shringla said that he prefers the daily sun first every morning as the newspaper presents positive stories of the country.
Besides, leaders of different political parties came to the daily sun office to wish the auspicious moment of its eighth anniversary.
Tarana Halim lauded the positive transformation of the daily sun in the last one year. “It has created its own position by maintaining neutrality and ethical journalism.”
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina congratulated the daily sun on its eighth anniversary, issuing separate messages.
Imdadul Haq Milon expressed the hope that the daily sun will continue its efforts to enlighten the society.
Banglanews24 Consulting Editor Juwel Mazhar said the newspaper has been experiencing a great transformation in the last one year by getting new leadership.
Former President AQM Badruddhoza Chowdhury, BNP leader Chowdhury Kamal Ibne Yusuf, Jatiya Party Co-chairman Golam Mohammad Quder and Secretary General Ruhul Amin Hawlader, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Secretary General Shaban Mahmud and Dhaka Reporters’ Unity President Saiful Islam also came to the daily sun office to wish the newspaper family.
GM Quder said the media have the responsibility to the country for flourishing democracy with objective journalism.
Ruhul Amin Hawlader said the daily sun has won readers’ mind by presenting positive Bangladesh.
Besides, different social and corporate organisations came to the Daily Sun office to greet the daily on the occasion.
Deputy Inspector General of Police SM Ruhul Amin, Assistant Inspector General Sohel Rana and Public Relations Officer AKM Kamrul Ahsan, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Joint Commissioner Mohd Ashrafuzzaman and Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman also came to celebrate the occasion.
In the afternoon, the gathering turned more colourful with the foot steps of cultural activists. Noted poet Asad Chowdhury came to daily sun and wished the newspaper by reciting a poem.
From Bashundhara Group’s subsidiaries – East West Property Development Senior Executive Director Liakat Ali, Bashundhara Group Human Resource department Head (Rtd) captain Shaikh Eshan Reza, Bashundhara Food Head of Marketing MM Jasim Uddin, Bashundhara Kings Organising Secretary Wasimul Islam, Bashundhara City General Manager Habibur Rahman Chowdhury and East West Media Group Deputy General Manager Jahirul Islam Khandokar also came to wish the Daily Sun.
From academic arena, Canadian University of Bangladesh Registrar Asaduzzaman Subhani, Hurdco International School Principal Jinnat Ali also greeted the Daily Sun family.
Business leaders, including Dutch Bangla Chamber of Commerce President Faruque Hassan, Beacon Group Chairman Khondoker Rashidul Huq, Gitanjali Jewellers Chairman Paban Kumar Agarwala, Concord Group Executive Director Anup Kumar Sarker also joined the celebration programme.

In the evening, artistes enthralled the guests and media people by performing a number of popular songs.
From the beginning of its operation on the day in 2010, the newspaper has been maintaining innovation in news production and courageous journalism.
