Rangpur, Gaibandha win in openers

The biggest football tournament of Rangpur Division, Bashundhara Kings Cup Football Tournament-2018 was inaugurated on Friday in Rangpur aiming to restore football’s lost popularity.
The eight districts of Rangpur division are participating in the tournament.
Gaibandha District Football Team defeated Thakurgaon District Football Team by 2-1 goals in the senior category of their inaugural match while hosts Rangpur won against Panchagarh by 2-0 goals in the second match of the tourney.
In the under-12 category, Rangpur beat Panchagarh by 2-1 whereas Gaibandha thrashed Thakurgaon by 1-0 goal in the second match.
Bashundhara Kings President Imrul Hasan and Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) General Secretary Abu Nayem Sohag inaugurated the tournament at the Rangpur Divisional Stadium on Friday afternoon.
Rangpur City Corporation Mayor Mostafizar Rahman along with other officials was also present during the inaugural ceremony.
Imrul Hasan reiterated Bashundhara Group’s commitment to the development football in Bangladesh.
“Bashundhara Group is continuously working for the development of country’s sporting events. Football fans are very excited to see such arrangement here. The eight districts of Rangpur division have ensured their participation in the tournament. Bashundhara Kings will add the rest of the districts of the nation under the tourney in near future,” Hasan said.
Abu Nayem Sohag admired Bashundhara Kings and the initiative taken by the club.
“Bangladesh Football Federation will always stay with Bashundhara Kings,” Sohag said.
In today’s fixture, Nilphamari will take on Kurigram boys in the first match while Dinajpur will play against Lalmonirhat in the second match.
