Rangpur Riders sign Hales for BPL T20
Defending champions of Bangladesh Premier League T20 tournament Rangpur Riders have signed English batsman Alex Hales for a two-year deal for the upcoming BPL season six that begins in January.
Hales became Riders’ first of the two signings outside the draft. Hales, who played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in this year’s Indian Premier League T20, will be reunited with the Australian coach Tom Moody who took Riders to their maiden BPL title last year. Riders will fill the rest of their squad in the players’ draft slated to take place on October 25.
Meanwhile, World T20 specialist AB de Villiers is likely to be seen in BPL in Riders jersey this year. The management of Rangpur Riders are trying to rope in the South African big shot de Villiers as their second signing outside the draft process. Although ‘Mr 360 Degrees’ famed de Villiers will be available for Riders only for the last seven to nine matches of the tournament after his engagements in Big Bash League in Australia.
Earlier, Rangpur have retained the Caribbean master blaster Chris Gayle in overseas category and Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza in local category. Mashrafe captained Rangpur to the title in the previous edition of BPL. Riders also kept Mohammad Mithun and Nazmul Islam Apu in local category. They have let go Rubel Hossain from their squad.
“We have signed Hales for the upcoming edition of BPL. We are expecting him to be available throughout the tournament,” Riders CEO Ishtiaque Sadeque told to media.
The deadline of submitting the players’ retention list for BPL franchisees was September 30.
