Sk Jamal move to top of BPL
Lt Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Ltd tasted the top spot of Bangladesh Premier League football tournament on Wednesday after thumping Brothers Union Ltd by 3-2 goals.
The round-18 match of Saif Power battery sponsored BPL kicked off at 6:45pm yesterday in a flood-lit Bangabandhu National Stadium in the capital.
Jamal took an early lead in the 5th minute of the match from their star footballer Solomon King Kanform. The Gambian forward took the pass from teammate Javed Khan and his header moved past Brothers goalkeeper Sujon Chowdhury easily.
Solomon completed his brace in the 44th minute, courtesy of a well-timed long pass from teammate Nurul Absar.
Brothers forward Siyo Zunapio Jeancy netted the first goal for their side from a penalty kick in the added time (45+4 minute) before the first half.
The second half started with strong attacks from both ends but Jamal had their third success in the 78th minute. This time the scorer was their Nigerian attacker Raphael Odovin Onwrebe.
Bishal Das of team Brothers scored their second goal in the 82nd minute to bring them back in the game.
However, dominating Jamal ended the match on a winning note.
Before yesterday, second ranked Jamal were following the former table topper Chittagong Abahani but Chittagong’s third defeat saw them to lose the top place.
On Tuesday last, a lowly ranked Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra stunned outplayed Chittagong by 2-0 goals.
In yesterday’s first clash between Farashganj Sporting Club and Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society, the old Dhaka outfit Farashganj earned a comfortable victory by 3-0 goals at the same venue.
Bottom ranked Farashganj are fighting hard to get out of the relegation zone before the end of this season. However, Rahmatganj and Farashganj both have 13 points only after 18 rounds of matches.
In today’s round-18 fixture, Mohammedan Sporting Club Ltd will meet Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Ltd at 4:30pm while Saif Sporting Club Ltd will lock horns with Team BJMC at 6:45pm. Both the matches will be played at Bangabandhu National Stadium.
