Ultra-modern dredge assembled at BSCL
Dhaka, August 7, 2010: Bashundhara Shipyard, a component of the Bashundhara Steel and Engineering Limited (BSEL), has acquired the pride of assembling an ultra-modern dredge unit at its Katoail yard in south Keraniganj.
Owner of the dredge unit Messrs SS Dredgers and Engineers Company Limited had chosen Bashundhara Shipyard for assembling the facility that was procured from a supplier in the United States of America. The company has also chosen the shipyard for assembling its second dredge.
This is the first ever event of assembling a dredger of distinct category at a local shipyard. The dredge unit has programmable logistic control (PLC) apart from shark-class cutter suction.
Experts hoped that the newly built dredger might help the public or private initiatives of retrieving the safer navigability of the major rivers and cannels in and around the country.
According to the Executive Director of the BSEL Captain Ruhul Amin the shipyard will also assemble four dredge units of similar or even heavier capacity by this yearend.
Earlier, an expert team from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) visited the dredge assembling facility at South Keraniganj and expressed its satisfaction of the technicalities and logistics available.
It also admired the suitability of the engineers and technicians of the Bashundhara Shipyard and hoped that the shipyard would be able to assemble all types of dredge if some specific devices are procured. Local assembling of dredge may also save smart amount of foreign exchange, they hoped.
