Dhaka, May 23: Chairman of the Bashundhara Group, leading industrial and business conglomerate in the country, Ahmed Akbar Sobhan called upon the businesspeople to work together for the greater interest of the country and its people. “The businesspeople will have to go ahead and work together to serve the country and its people. We also should expand our business so that more jobs are created,” he said at a reception accorded by the Bashundhara City Shop Owners’ Association at its conference centre in the city. The state mechanism will fail without the support and co-operation of the entrepreneurs and the businessmen, he said, adding that the national development will be hampered if the trade and commerce are not in good shape. Recalling the roles of the business community in the recent years, he said that non-cooperation of the business community had forced the army-backed caretaker government to hand over power to the people’s representatives. “As businesspeople didn’t cooperate with the army-backed caretaker government, it had no option but to hand over power to the people’s representatives,” he said. He also stressed the need for curbing crimes like robbery and snatching, saying that lot of the people would not be changed without improvement in the law and order situation. Akbar Sobhan thanked the members of Bashundhara City Shop Owners’ Association for playing positive role during the rule of immediate past caretaker government. He also assured that utility charge would not be increased for next one year. BCSOA President Hannan Azad informed that there are around 2,200 shops in the Bashundhara City. “We are trying our best to extend all possible co-operations to the customers so that they can enjoy hassle-free shopping,” he said. Hannan also said the shopkeepers at the Bashundhara City are very caring about protection of the customers’ rights. He thanked the BG chairman for smooth supply of electricity to their shops while the country was reeling under severe power crisis. Co-Chairman of the Bashundhara Group Sadat Sobhan, Technical Adviser Latiful Hossain, Media Adviser Mohammad Abu Tayub and senior officials of the group and leaders of the BCSOA were present at the function.
