Bashundhara Group has signed an agreement with Nippon of Japan, one of the largest paper mills in the world, which will increase newsprint production in the country by 200 thousand tonnes a year. According to the agreement, two new machines will be installed at Bashundhara Paper Mills with each machine producing 500 tonnes paper a day. Bashundhara Paper Mills now produce up to 500 tonnes paper a day. Statistics of the information ministry show that newspaper industry of the country needs about 230 tonnes of newsprint a day and more than 80 thousand tonnes a year. Sources at the industries ministry said currently 14 mills are producing 223 thousand tonnes newsprint in the country a year. More 182 tonnes news-print would be produced when two new machines go into operation at Bashun-dhara Paper Mills. Md Mostafizur Rahman, Deputy Managing Director of Bashundhara Group, said the country will be able to export newsprint once the new machines of Bashundhara Paper Mills Limited come into operation.
